Successful treatment with Nitrofurantoin alone after two eradication therapies

2 1/2 years ago I developed gastritis and reflux. Started with mouth ulcers, chest inflammation, specific areas that would become painful, then clear and pop up in another area around my stomach and ribs, stomach bloating and inflammation was so severe I could feel my stomach working when I ate. I started reacting to most food groups, my diet consisted of chicken and potatoes for a while, the only things I didn’t react to. I had an endoscopy and no h-pylori was found, but my blood work had been showing lymphocytosis for years and I’m IGA deficient which can cause false negatives so my consultant wanted me to try eradication therapy anyway as he’d had success in the past.
I had two eradication therapies
amoxicillin Metronidazole and pantoprazole
Amoxicillin clarythromicin and pantoprazole
Both worked well, reflux stopped, didn’t eliminate but did reduce gastritis significantly and I was able to tolerate more and more foods.
After 2 years bloating had almost stopped, gastritis was low level and reactionary to what I ate, much better but I was beginning to think I’d have to live with it and manage with diet as best I could.
I developed a kidney infection and was prescribed Nitrofurantoin 100mg twice a day for three days. (I haven’t taken any acid blockers for over a year). As a much welcome side effect my gastritis cleared almost immediately. The relief was immense. It came back within 6 weeks and I had another 3 day therapy mid December, so far the gastritis has not reappeared, and I am able to eat relatively normally.
I posted in this forum at the beginning and was helped a lot (can’t find my old login details) so wanted to give this update. I’m in the UK and this wasn’t an antibiotic my doctor would have considered if I hadn’t developed a kidney infection. Has there been much success with it?
