I am a 40 year old female and I was just diagnosed with HP yesterday. I have been prescribed tx but I am wondering if feeling like something is stuck in your throat is a common symptom of HP. Could the HP or extra
Acid/reflux have caused irritations, inflammation, or even the start of ulcerizations to the esophagus? I feel like I need to swallow swallow swallow to get it down or cough maybe to get it up but nothing helps. This symptom occured a couple of weeks after the onset of the reflux approx.

the hard to swallow bit doesnt sound like H. pylori.

I suggest you book yourself an endoscopy to have a look.

I was just diagnosed around January 9th. For the past three months or so, I have been feeling like there is something stuck in my throat also. I just finished up my 10 day treatment of antibiotics. It still feels like I have something in my throat, but it is definitely not as bad as it was. I hear that even after you finish your treatment, your symptoms may not clear up for a few months until your flora balances out.

you are right about the recovery. some people may take longer time to recover. it depends on the severity of the damage done by H. pylori in your stomach. I hope you recover soon. After 4 weeks, remember to go back for follow up.

I have talked with my gastro on the phone. I have an endoscopy follow-up with them next Friday. I asked them if we should set that appt. out further so that they can re-test me since I just finished up my treatment. They told me they don't test after the treatment. What do you suggest now? Shall I push the issue while I am at my appt. on Friday or should I ask my gp to do the test?

Interesting to hear your story re lump/something stuck in your throat. I have had the same symptom for some time now and had it checked out in the hospital with negetive results. It comes and goes but when you have it, no amount of swallowing or drinking will allieviate the discomfort. I also suffer from HP which I have been unable to get rid of. Looks like I will have it with me always. My HP comes and goes as well, sometimes I dont have symptoms for several months and then it flares up again for no apparent reason.
Lets hope for a cure soon as it is a very debilatating disease.

I hate to hear that you cannot get rid of your hp. Have you been treated numerous times? I have only been treated once and would like to know that it is gone, but neither my gastro nor my gp think it is worth doing the follow-up test. They say that if you finish up the anti-biotics, they just assume that you are cured until you experience more problems. The problem with that is every expert states that each person will have symptoms even after the treatment is given. Some people have the symptoms for days or even months afterward. Do you think that may be the case with you? I hope you feel better soon!

I disagree with your GP. I think it is important to find out if the bug has been successfully removed. At least then you know the symptoms should slowly recover to normal. if they dont recover, then you know the symptoms are not due to the h. pylori.

My GP wont do another test onme to see if my HP has gone, as she says it will stay in the body for a few months, is this he case and if so could it just flare up again

after treatment, your bacteria load should either be completely gone or left with a very small amount. these small amount of bacteria is called resistant strains. which means, the treatment failed. the only way to find out is to wait for a month or two, stop the PPI and antibiotic for at least 3 weeks, then test again by doing urea breath test.

blood test will not work because your antibody will remain positive for.. months or years. so, blood test is not suitable after treatment. i think this is what your GP meant.

so, 3 weeks after your treatment end, without taking PPI and antibiotics, test again using urea breath test. that will tell u if your first treatment work.
